Databases of HCSO Library
Databases of special literature have had an important role for a long time in the services provided by HCSO Library. In 2010 three large databases are available for readers, which provide access to millions of full-text periodical articles in electronic form.
The database of EBSCO Publishing, providing full texts, contains materials in the fields of management, economic sciences, finance, international enterprises and marketing. In addition to the full texts of 7792 periodicals and other publications it contains the Regional Business News database, which provides a comprehensive, full-text selection of 75 business dailies and periodicals of cities and regions of the United States. (Further information in English: http://www.epnet.com/.)
The Library subscribes for several blocks of the JSTOR database family. As a result the 400 most important foreign periodicals of human and social sciences as well as mathematical statistics are freely available on computers of HCSO Library. (Further information in English: http://www.jstor.org/.)
Science Direct is the full-text database service provided by the Elsevier scientific publishing house. Its main profile is the distribution of scientific and technical periodicals in electronic form. 1.5 million periodical articles are available in the database. (Further information in English: http://www.sciencedirect.com/.)
The majority of special periodicals do not allow for the publication of their latest number through databases, so in addition to the above-mentioned electronic services HCSO Library subscribes for several printed foreign periodicals of statistics, economics and demography, which can be found in the reading room of the Library, named after Dezső Dányi.
Besides the database of special literature the electronic version of the International Statistical Yearbook can also be used in HCSO Library, which contains statistical datasets of the UN, the EU, the IMF, the World Bank and the OECD in an aggregate form. The electronic version offers the possibility to edit the data, to make calculations using statistical tools, and to make illustrations of the particular tables.
The own electronic catalogue of the Library is accessible at http://konyvtar.ksh.hu Thanks for a grant received from the Social Renewal Operational Programme (TÁMOP) in 2010 more than 850,000 documents of the Library will be available for search on this webpage by October 2011.
