A new approach to domestic industry

Experimental statistics show the factors affecting industrial productivity

An experimental statistic published as a result of a professional cooperation between the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) and Budapest Metropolitan University (METU) sheds light on the relationship between new value creation capacity and the length of value chains, and also shows the spatial concentration of domestic industry. The joint experimental statistics of the HCSO and METU will be extended in autumn 2024 with a similar approach to the presentation of individual industries.

The first experimental statistic (Industrial value chain length and territorial concentration), which is the result of a professional cooperation between the Hungarian Central Statistical Office and the Budapest Metropolitan University, is a novelty because it provides a new approach to macro-statistics on industrial productivity and its determinants, based on the combination of official statistics published by the HCSO and Eurostat, which has not been used before, thus broadening our knowledge of the interrelationships of national economic processes. During autumn 2024, the joint experimental statistics of the HCSO and the METU will be extended with a similar approach to the presentation of each section and industry, such as construction and food industry.

The experimental statistics will be produced using new data sources and innovative methods to enable the statistical office to respond more efficiently and quickly to emerging user needs. They can help to fill perceived knowledge gaps and provide powerful support for a deeper understanding of social and economic processes.
