The European Population Conference is held in Hungary
The 12th Session of the European Population Conference (EPC) started on 25th June 2014 in Budapest. The plenary session of the biennial scientific meeting of European demographers was opened and chaired by dr. Gabriella Vukovich, President of the Hungarian Statistical Office (HCSO) at the Corvinus University. The more than one thousand participants of the three-day long conference work in 14 sections. This year, in Budapest, population experts of European countries pay special attention to the topic ‘Transitions: Opportunities andTthreats’.
The main organizer of the European Population Conference is the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS) founded in 1983. From Hungary, the organization was undertaken by the Demographic Research Institute (DRI) of HCSO and the organizing committee was headed by Zsolt Spéder, Director of DRI. Hungarian demographers played an active role at the earlier meetings as well. The last conference of the association was held in 2012 in Stockholm.
