The Hungarian Central Statistical Office is conducting, once again, in 2024-2025 a time use survey in Hungary. The purpose of the survey, to be launched on 8 April 2024, is to provide detailed, space and time comparable data regarding the population’s time use. Information gained from it will reveal the impact of the last 15 years’ social and economic changes on people’s time use. Timely data of the survey is expected to support family policy related decisions; to assist in designing working time regulation policies; to offer information about trip destinations and mode; to offer insight in cultural and free time activity trends; to assist national accounts related development processes, within these, first of all, productions performed by households.
The survey, following international methodological recommendations, is conducted by the HCSO in 264 settlements of the country. The Office is calling on the randomly selected, by statistical means, 40 thousand or so participants by post. Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Field work is going to take place between 8 April 2024 and 7 April 2025.
Respondents are going to fill in, beside a background questionnaire on socio-economic data, a diary, too, where all itemized daily activities have to be recorded. Participation may be through online self-report, as well as with the assistance of an interviewer, in-person interview. Respondents are going to be rewarded with gift coupons.
