Pál György Demény, demographer, economist, former staff member of HCSO has passed away

Pál György Demény, demographer, economist, former staff member of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO), passed away at the age of 91 on October 18, 2024.

Pál György Demény was born on 24 December 1932 in Nyíregyháza. In 1955 he was appointed to the position of official at the Social and Cultural Statistics Department of HCSO, and later he became the senior official of the Population Department.

In 2018 he was awarded the Order of St. Stephen of Hungary, and in 2023 he was elected one of the members of the Demographic Round Table. Selected studies of his work were published in 2016 by HCSO Population Research Institute under the title "Population Policy in the Service of the Common Good".
