Registration for the STAT WARS competition closes

HCSO national statistics competition was free to enter from September

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) has announced the 11th edition of the STAT WARS national statistics team competition for secondary school students in 2024. The purpose of the competition is to spread and popularise statistical culture among young people. The deadline for applications was 15 October.

The STAT WARS competition organised for secondary school students will take place for the 11th time this year. HCSO is expecting applications from teams of 4 students in two age groups, in the 9th-10th and 11th and above grades of secondary education institutions for the challenge, which consists of three online rounds and an attendance final. A total of 398 groups registered this year for the contest.

During the three online rounds starting on 16 October, the 10 best teams from each age group will be selected to pit their wits against each other in the final in February 2025 at the Statistical Palace.

This year’s competition was titled “Year of Skills, Lifelong Learning.” The teams will have to solve playful tasks and thought-provoking statistical questions compiled by HCSO experts on the topic.

The podium teams of the final will receive valuable prizes. The total prize money of the competition is HUF 2,500,000. The first and second place winners of the age-group finals will also qualify for the European Statistics Competition organised by Eurostat.

The patron of the contest is Dr. Áron Kincses, President of the HCSO.
