Press release, 15.11.2023.

The agricultural census of private holdings has begun

On 15 November, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) started the agricultural census of more than 22 thousand private holdings nationwide. Farmers can fill in the questionnaire online until 23 November, and then with the help of enumerators until 15 December. The aim of the data collection is to provide up-to-date information for national and EU decision-makers and farmers, and to help Hungary meet its data reporting obligations to the European Union.

This year, the HCSO will carry out its latest agricultural census between 15 November and 15 December, covering more than 22 thousand private holdings in the country. The response is mandatory for the farms selected.

"The survey mainly covers crop production, livestock production, labour force engaged in agricultural activities, investments and production-related expenditure. The results of the census will help policy-makers to work in the interests of producers and to lay the foundations for support schemes," pointed out Péter Tóth, Head of the Agriculture Statistics Section of the HCSO.

For the non-priority private holdings, nearly 18 thousand farmers can complete the questionnaire in two ways. From 15 to 23 November, online, via maja.ksh.hu, and then from 24 November to 15 December, with the help of enumerators. Census enumerators with photo ID will only visit farmers who have not taken the opportunity to self-completion. Our enumerators will collect the data in person or by telephone and record them electronically. It is important to note that for private holdings of high importance, the data collection is entirely self-completed online.

HCSO has sent all data subjects the information necessary for completing the questionnaire and the access code by e-mail or post before the response period.

The information obtained from the survey will be used by the HCSO for statistical purposes only, will not be disclosed to other bodies or persons and will be handled securely in accordance with the law. The aggregated results of the data collection will be sent by HCSO by e-mail after the census to those who have requested this when filling in the questionnaire.

Those who send in the completed questionnaire online by midnight on 23 November at the latest will be entered into a prize draw to win a shopping voucher worth HUF 100 000.
