This year's Elek Fényes Awards were handed over
The Elek Fényes Award was presented by Dr. Áron Kincses, President of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO), in recognition of outstanding achievements in the cultivation, practical application and further development of statistics and the dissemination of statistical culture, for
- László Gergely Baksay, Executive Director of the Executive Directorate for Economic and Fiscal Analysis and Statistics of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (National Bank of Hungary), in recognition of his outstanding work in disseminating statistical culture over several decades;
- Prof. Dr. Tamás Dusek, Professor and Head of the Doctoral School of the Széchenyi István University, Editor-in-Chief of the journal Hungarian Statistical Review, in recognition of his commitment to Hungarian statistics and his outstanding work as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Statistical Review;
- Prof. Dr. Márta Péntek, Professor at the University of Óbuda, Chief Physician of the Flór Ferenc Hospital, in recognition of her research in the field of health and health care statistics and her outstanding work in the dissemination of statistical culture;
- Peter Tóth, Senior Advisor to NTCA (National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary), Central Management, Presidential Cabinet, in recognition of his preparatory work as technical leader of the interministerial project "Event-based Data Platform (EMAP)" and his outstanding work for the dissemination of statistical culture as organiser of the event series "Data Analysis in Public Administration".
The Elek Fényes Awards were presented at a ceremony at the Office's headquarters in Budapest on 11 July 2024.
The Fényes Elek Award. Elek Fényes (1807-1876) was an economics statistician and geographer, an important figure of the reform-era bourgeois progress, the founder of the Hungarian approach to homeland studies and work, and the first significant representative of Hungarian economics statistics. The State Award named after him is handed over every year to professionals who have done outstanding work in the field of statistics.
