Hungary, 2023, this year’s volume of HCSO’s series of comprehensive annual publications comes out

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) has published Hungary, its comprehensive annual publication for already 30 years. Similarly to the former pieces of the book series, the publication takes into account the most important economic, social and environmental indicators for Hungary this year, too, and looks at international trends as well. The volume can be ordered from HCSO’s publication repertory.

The publication titled Hungary, 2023, the 30th piece in HCSO’s series of annual publications, has come out. The volume gives an overview of the domestic macro-economic environment and the sectoral performance of Hungary’s economy, and presents our society‘s most substantial characteristics – including labour market conditions, the demographic situation and the circumstances of life of the population –, furthermore, the main indicators of digitalisation, environment and energy management. The publication focuses primarily on 2023 domestic data and trends, but also presents relevant trends in the recent past and touches on the international context as well.

In seven chapters, on over two hundred pages and illustrated with some 160 expressive figures and charts, the volume presents the most important socio-economic characteristics in Hungary and the trends outlined according to changes in the near past. It is shown, for example, that the employment rate increased to 74.8 per cent in 2023, the highest value recorded since the beginning of labour force surveys in 1992 and exceeding by 4.4 percentage points the EU average. The balance of external trade in goods significantly improved, too: after a deficit in 2022, a surplus of 9.2 billion euros was generated in 2023, which has been the second highest value since the beginning, in 1999, of the time series covering data published in euros.

The volume titled Hungary, 2023 can be ordered from HCSO’s publication repertory.
