The new volume of the National Atlas of Hungary series has been launched

The volume entitled “State and Nation” presents the spatial correlations of Hungary’s historical, social and administrative characteristics

The MTA Research Centre for Human Sciences hosted on 10 December 2024 the launching of the newest volume of the National Atlas of Hungary entitled “State and Nation” as well as of the new, revised edition of the “Natural Environment” publication, the event being organised by the Hungarian Research Network. The Geographical institute Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences was the editor and coordinator of the volumes, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) assisted as data supplier strategic partner in the creation of these very significant scientific publications.

The new volume of the National Atlas of Hungary (MNA) series entitled “State and Nation” as well as the new, revised edition of the “Natural Environment” book have been launched. On the event hosted by the Geographical institute Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences on 10 December 2024, Dr. Áron Kincses, President of the HCSO, Dr. Balázs Gulyás, President of the Hungarian Research Network, Dr. Tamás Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences as well as Dr. Károly Kocsis, President of the MNA Editorial Board, editor in chief of the volumes presented the newly published volumes and appraised the importance of the series.

The volumes of the National Atlas of Hungary series present, through high scientific standard thematic maps and corresponding explanatory texts, the main natural, economic, social and administrative characteristics of Hungary and the Carpathian Basin. The history of the MNA goes back to 1967, the first publication, followed in 1989 by the second one. The Hungarian Academy of Sciences initiated in the 2010s the preparations of the new edition, published in Hungarian and English in four-four volumes. The Geographical institute Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences is the project coordinator, the HCSO joined in 2018 as strategic partner. The publications are available in high standard large atlas format, but, meeting the requirements of our era, their content is also available on the www.emna.hu website.
