Katalin Janák, head of department at the HCSO has been granted a prestigious award

The Public Service Award is granted for excellence in professional achievement

Katalin Janák, Head of Public Services Statistics Department at the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) has been granted the “Public Service Award”, in recognition of her professional excellence and long term, exemplary work. The award, handed over on 9 December 2024, is granted by the Hungarian Government Officials' Body for outstanding professional government official work, as well as for excellent interpersonal, collegial and managerial qualities.

As a result of the recommendation of the President of the HCSO and the decision of the Hungarian Government Officials' Body, Katalin Janák, Head of Public Services Statistics Department at the HCSO, received on 9 December 2024 the “Public Service Award”. The awarding criteria for this recognition, presented at a ceremony held in the state-room of the Pest County Hall, is at least 10 years’ service for public welfare, outstanding professional work as well as excellent interpersonal, collegial and managerial attitude.

Katalin Janák started her public service career in 1987 at the Social Statistics Department of the HCSO. She became Head of Division: at first at the Cultural Statistics Division, since 2006 she was leading the Education, Research and R&I Division. She has been promoted to Head of the Standard of Living and Labour-statistics Department. She is leading at present the Public Services Statistics Department. Significant improvements, methodological innovations took place within the educational and cultural statistics as well in labour statistics under her leadership. She is an internationally recognised professional, member of the Eurostat Social Statistics working group. Lecturer at national and international forums, she also publishes in professional, scientific periodicals.
