New administrative data source serving quick and accurate statistics

Co-operation continues between HCSO and NFCSO

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) and the National Food Chain Safety Office (NFCSO) renewed their co-operation agreement. With the agreement, HCSO widens the group of its administrative data sources used for preparing statistics, which will make data releases more cost-efficient, quicker and more accurate.

HCSO and the National Food Chain Safety Office made an agreement on data sharing. The aim of the agreement is to determine the professional and technical framework for information exchange between the parties, so that HCSO should obtain the data and information needed for the completion of its tasks laid down in rules of law.

HCSO is obliged to continuously develop the procedures of preparing statistics, in order to enhance accuracy, timeliness and efficiency, as well as to reduce costs, time to market and response burden. One of its ways, widely accepted in international terms, too, is to involve as wide a group of administrative data sources as possible in producing statistics. HCSO uses nearly three hundred administrative data sources at present, and continuously endeavours to establish new co-operation.

Administrative data sources contain data collected and managed, as part of administrative processes, by different public or government organs, and HCSO – in line with EU practice – is authorised by law to adopt these data for statistical purposes. These data are increasingly important in official statistics, since a vast amount of, accurate and detailed information is available in a modern data environment without having to launch additional surveys to collect data.

In data adoptions, HCSO acts in accordance with the provisions of the Act on Official Statistics, of GDPR as well as of the Act on the Right of Self-Determination with respect to Information and the Freedom of Information, and manages all data confidentially.
