Machine learning for understanding economic growth and development

HCSO hosted an academic lecture

Chilean-Spanish-American scientist César A. Hidalgo gave a lecture at the main building of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) on 21 February 2025. In a presentation in English, lasting almost one and a half hours, the expert, known for his research in the frontiers of economic complexity, data visualisation and applied artificial intelligence, presented new tools that artificial intelligence and machine learning offer for analysing and forecasting economic processes.

Machine learning models can efficiently process large amounts of data of disparate nature, enabling more complex economic analysis. On the topic "How Machine Learning Helps us Understand Economic Growth and Development?", César A. Hidalgo, Chilean-Spanish-American scientist, gave a presentation at the Hungarian Central Statistical Office's main building on 21 February 2025. The event provided the audience with an opportunity to learn about the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in understanding and forecasting economic processes.

César A. Hidalgo is Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE), Director of the Center for Collective Learning, a multidisciplinary research laboratory and Honorary Professor at the University of Manchester, Alliance Manchester Business School. He is an interdisciplinary data scientist known for his innovative creativity in using data to address issues at the intersection of economic development, data visualisation and applied artificial intelligence. His scientific papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals and he is the author of three books.

The event was part of the "FPO Talks" series of events launched by the Future Prospects Observatory Non-Profit Ltd.
