Business units and non-profit organisations

A business unit is a profit-oriented or function-oriented entity set up as the organisational framework of management, which produces goods or provides services to market participants and the society. Data on business units and non-profit organisations are available from registers or after processing statistical and tax data. Register data and business demographic data make it possible to analyse the structure of registered organisations and active enterprises, respectively, by number, activity, headcount and revenue, and to identify new and closed enterprises. Economic indicators for enterprises and non-profit organisations provide information on performance and activity characteristics. The purpose of foreign affiliates statistics (FATS) is to measure which countries control the economy of the different countries, and in which industries and to what extent they do so.

Statistical Yearbook of Hungary, 2023

The yearbook provides an overview of Hungary's demographic, social and economic processes, environmental characteristics and their changes over time, with the help of tens of thousands of data of 500 tables, graphs and maps. Innovatively, the Tourism, catering chapter in the volume includes the gross receipts of tourist accommodation establishments by type of accommodation. Another change is that this year the Regional data chapter already presents territorial data by tourism area, giving greater emphasis to tourist destinations.

Snapshots, 2023 - Enterprises

According to preliminary data the number of sole proprietorships and that of business partnerships was overall below the one year earlier data. Even if the number of business partnerships slightly increased, that of sole proprietorships – partly due to legislative tightening in regard to small tax companies – lessened significantly. The share of foreign controlled enterprises operating in Hungary in the gross value added did not change in merit compared to 2021.

Geopolitical tensions continued to overshadow economic developments in 2023, with the gross domestic product falling by 0.9%. Inflationary pressures gradually eased, but the 17.6% annual increase in consumer prices led to a decline in real earnings and consumption, and negatively affected investment decisions. Despite the economic difficulties, employment has reached a record high. In 2023, the number of deaths and births continued to fall, in addition to the decrease in the number of women of childbearing age.
