Development, production and publication of experimental statistics at the Hungarian Central Statistical Office
What does the term ‘experimental statistics’ mean?
The term “experimental” refers to the fact that these statistics are produced using new data sources and/or innovative methods.
Experimental statistics may either become official statistics through continuous development and testing or be retained in an experimental state that complement official statistics published in a standard way.
The production of experimental statistics may have substantial benefits: they fill knowledge gaps in a timely manner, serve as driving force towards new analyses and indicators, and provide important information support for subject matter policies.
The aim of publishing experimental statistics is to provide the public with data that, despite the limitations due to their experimental nature, may be relevant to users. Publishing these data also enables user feedback at an early stage of the development of new statistics.
