Released: 29 August 2025

Construction output volume in the European Union was 0.5 percent lower than one month earlier, at the same time 1.9% higher in June 2025 than in June 2024. Compared to the latter, based on available working day adjusted data1, production volume grew in the majority of the member states, however in the two decisive countries from construction output point of view, France and Germany, it decreased. Spain registered in the third month in a row an outstanding, over 30% increase. Growth took place in all four Visegrad countries, 14.0% in Czechia, 9.8% in Slovakia, 2.2% in Poland, 0.9% in Hungary. The number of inaugurated dwellings significantly grew in Czechia during June, year-on-year, contributing to the outstanding performance of construction.

Construction performance lagged behind the one month earlier level by 5.3% in Hungary in June 2025.

Production increased in both main construction groups, by 0.4% in the construction of buildings, by 6.5% in civil engineering. (Elements of transport infrastructure and complex industrial facilities belong to the latter.) Specialised construction, the largest weight representing division in construction registered a 5.6% relapse, at the same time the production volume in construction of buildings was 11.1% higher, specialised construction 11.0% above the one year earlier level. The volume of new contracts concluded rose by 67.8%. The volume of the end of June stock of contracts at construction enterprises was 17.9% higher year-on-year, within it contracts for the construction of buildings lessened by 7.2%, those for civil engineering grew by 38.5%.

Based on the Euroconstruct estimate construction performance may increase annually in Hungary by 1.7% in 2025, by 2.9% in 2026. In Germany, Italy, Austria, however, a decline is expected in 2025, too. At the same time Research and Markets predicts a 2% setback in Hungary’s construction performance for this year.
