Motor fuel price statistics, January 2025

Based on data in the Weekly Oil Bulletin, published by the EU, the average price of 95-octane petrol was 635 forints in Hungary in the month of January, which was 3 forints or 0.5% lower than the average of 638 forints for neighbouring countries. In countries in the region, the average price in January was 618 forints, the price in Hungary being 2.8% or 17 forints higher. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the average price of 95 petrol increased by 18 forints in Hungary. In parallel, the averages observed for neighbouring countries and for countries in the region grew, too, by 21 and 18 forints, respectively.
The monthly average price of diesel motor fuel was 653 forints in Hungary, which was 2 forints or 0.3% lower than the average of 655 forints for neighbouring countries. The average price of diesel motor fuel was 22 forints or 3.5% higher in Hungary than the regional average price of 631 forints. Compared to the figure for the previous month, monthly average diesel oil prices in Hungary rose by 20 forints. The averages observed for neighbouring countries and for countries in the region were both up by 19 forints compared to December data.
Out of the countries in the region, the average price of petrol was higher in Austria, Croatia, Serbia and Slovakia than in Hungary in January. Compared to the figure for the previous month, it increased the most, by 30 forints in Romania and Slovakia.
The average price of 95-octane petrol was less than 5% lower in Poland, Romania and Slovenia, 5–10% lower in Czechia, and more than 15% lower in Bulgaria than in Hungary.
Average diesel oil prices in January were higher in Austria, Serbia and Slovenia than the value in Hungary, however, they were over 15% lower in Bulgaria. Compared to the figure for the previous month, the average price of diesel went up in all countries in the region, and the largest growth of 29 forints was recorded for Slovakia.
