Motor fuel price statistics, August 2024

Based on data of the EU’s Weekly Oil Bulletin, the average price of 95-octane petrol was 605 forints in Hungary in the month of August, which was 7 forints or 1.1% lower than the average of 612 forints for neighbouring countries. In countries in the region, the average price in August was 596 forints, the price in Hungary being 1.5% or 9 forints higher. The average price of 95 petrol decreased by 7 forints in Hungary compared to the figure for the previous month. In parallel, the averages observed for countries in the region and for neighbouring countries lessened, too, both by 8 forints.
The monthly average price of diesel motor fuel was 611 forints in Hungary, which was the same as the average price measured for neighbouring countries in August. The average price of diesel motor fuel in Hungary was 19 forints or 3.2% higher than the regional average price of 592 forints. The monthly average price of diesel oil was down by 10 forints in Hungary compared to the figure for the previous month. The regional average price decreased by 11 forints, and the price observed for neighbouring countries by 13 forints compared to July data.
Compared to Hungary, the average price of petrol was higher in Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and Slovakia out of the countries in the region in August. Compared to the figures for the previous month, the price of petrol went down the most, by 17 forints in each of Austria and Serbia.
The average price of 95-octane petrol was less than 5% lower in Czechia, Poland and Romania, and more than 10% lower in Bulgaria than in Hungary.
The average price of diesel oil in August was higher in Austria, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia than the value in Hungary, however, it was over 15% lower in Bulgaria. Compared to the figures for the previous month, the average price of diesel decreased in all countries in the region, except Bulgaria and Slovenia. The largest reduction of 22 forints was recorded for Serbia.
