Motor fuel price statistics

Based on the latest data of the EU’s Weekly Oil Bulletin, the average price of 95-octane petrol was 616 forints in Hungary, which was 10 forints or 1.7% higher than the regional average. In neighbouring countries, the average price was 623 forints, the price in Hungary being 1.1% or 7 forints lower. The weekly average price of diesel motor fuel was 623 forints in Hungary, which was 19 forints or 3.1% higher than the regional average price of 604 forints. In neighbouring countries, the average price of diesel was 625 forints, and the figure for Hungary was 0.3% or 2 forints lower than this.
The average price of 95 petrol rose by 1 forint in Hungary compared to the figure for the previous week. In regional and neighbouring countries, the average price of petrol went down by 4 and 3 forints, respectively.
The average price of diesel oil was reduced by 3 forints in Hungary over a week. In parallel, the regional average lessened, too, by 6 forints. In neighbouring countries, the average price of diesel oil decreased by 5 forints.
Compared to Hungary, the average price of petrol was higher in Austria, Croatia, Serbia and Slovakia out of the countries in the region according to the latest data. Compared to figures for the previous week, the price of petrol went down the most, by 14 forints in Romania.
The average price of 95-octane petrol was less than 5% lower in Czechia, Poland, Romania and Slovenia and more than 15% lower in Bulgaria than in Hungary.
The weekly average price of diesel oil was higher in Austria, Croatia and Serbia than the value in Hungary, however, it was over 15% lower in Bulgaria. The average price of diesel was cut in all countries in the region except Serbia and Slovenia compared to the previous week. The largest reduction of 21 forints was recorded for Slovakia.
HCSO plans to fine-tune motor fuel price experimental statistics in the coming period. From August 2024, HCSO is expected to publish in addition to weekly data monthly average prices as well in respect of statistics on motor fuel prices in Hungary as well as in countries in the region and in neighbouring countries.
