Comparison of changes in the industrial producer prices in the EU member states, January 2026

Industrial producer prices1 lessened by 1.7% in the European Union in January 2026 compared to a year earlier. The prices of industrial products rose the most in Bulgaria out of the member states2, by 11% compared to a year earlier. The most significant fall of 6.6% occurred in Ireland. In Hungary, industrial producer prices diminished by 2.8% compared to the same period of the previous year, which was the fifth largest price decrease in the order of the member states. Among the other Visegrád countries, prices were 2.2% lower in Poland and 0.2% lower in Slovakia than in January 2025, and no datum was available for Czechia. Compared to the previous month, industrial producer prices rose by 1.0% in Hungary and by 0.7% on average in the EU.

Hungary’s industrial domestic output prices decreased by 2.8% in January compared to one year earlier, within which they diminished by 3.2% in manufacturing, representing a weight of 68%, and by 2.2% in the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply), with a weight of 30%. Food industry output prices were up by 2.4%. Prices in Hungary became 4.0% lower in energy and intermediate producer branches together and 1.4% lower in capital goods producer branches and 1.2% higher in consumer goods producer branches out of the end-use groups of the producer branches of industry.

Industrial non-domestic output prices lessened by 2.9%, within which by 3.4% in manufacturing, representing a weight of 90%, and by 1.7% in the energy industry, with a weight of 9.7%.

According to the macro models of Trading Economics3, industrial producer prices will start to rise again from the 2nd quarter of 2026 in Hungary and from the 3rd quarter in the EU. An average price rise of 1.1% is expected for Hungary and of 0.2% at the EU level in 2026 as a whole.
