The Stat Wars and Stat Wars Uni contests are kicking off, 16/09/2024
Entry for the national statistical contests started
The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) is announcing this year, too, national statistical team-contest: Stat Wars for secondary school students and Stat Wars Uni for tertiary education. The aim of these contests is enhancing statistical culture among young people. Both contests are open for entries until 15 October 2024 midnight.
The Stat Wars contest is taking place for the eleventh time this year. Organizers are expecting applications from 4-student teams in two age groups: from classes 9-10 as well as from classes 11 and higher, during the entry period starting on 16 September 2024, on the www.ksh.hu/statwars website. The contest is entitled this year Year of skills, lifelong learning. The 10-10 teams reaching the finals following 3 online turns are going to test their knowledge in February 2025 in the Palace of Statistics, where the winners settling for the first three places are going to be awarded with valuable prizes. The teams on the first and second places are going to participate in the European Statistical Competition organised by Eurostat.
The HCSO is organising jointly with the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) the Stat Wars Uni statistical contest for students in the tertiary BA, MA, MSc education. Organizers are expecting max. 3-student teams. Participants may test their knowledge in processing and representing economic, social and territorial data series. Basic statistical knowledge is participation requirement. The solving of assignments is going to be evaluated by a committee of professors from renowned Hungarian universities as well as specialists from the HCSO and MNB. The most successful teams, following 3 online turns, are going to compete in person on 4 December 2024 at the finals, taking place at the Statistical Palace. BA, MA, MSc-student teams with the highest scores are going to meet in the finals. The 3-3 best teams are going to be awarded cash prizes.
