The number of tourism nights increased by 2.0% and that of tourist arrivals by 4.1% compared to a year earlier
In July 2024, 2.4 million guests spent 6.6 million tourism nights at tourist (commercial, private and other) accommodation establishments1. The number of arrivals was 4.1% and tourism nights 2.0% higher than a year earlier. The number of nights spent by domestic guests fell by 0.3%, while international tourism nights rose by 5.4%. In January-July 2024, domestic guests spent 1.9% and international guests 11% more tourism nights in tourist accommodation establishments than in the same period of the previous year.

Overall, the number of arrivals and tourism nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments grew by 4.1% and 2.0% respectively. 62% of tourism nights were at commercial accommodation establishments, where turnover was 1.6% higher than a year earlier. Private and other accommodation establishments registered 2.7% more tourism nights than a year earlier.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals fell by 0.5% and that of domestic tourism nights by 0.3% compared to the same month of the previous year. 1.3 million domestic guests spent nearly 3.9 million tourism nights in tourist accommodation establishments, within which commercial accommodation establishments registered 842 thousand tourist arrivals and 2.3 million tourism nights. 60% of the latter were spent at hotels, where the number of tourism nights was 5.9% higher than a year earlier. The number of domestic tourism nights spent at private or other accommodation establishments was down by 1.4% compared to July 2023. The number of domestic tourism nights increased the most in the Szeged region (by 11%) and decreased the most in the Győr and Pannonhalma tourism area2 (by 10%) compared to the same period last year. The number of nights spent by domestic guests in tourist accommodation increased by 9.3% in Budapest and declined by 0.4% at Lake Balaton.
The number of international arrivals increased by 11% and international tourism nights by 5.4% compared to the same month last year. The 1.0 million international guests having arrived at tourist accommodation establishments spent 2.8 million tourism nights there, of which commercial accommodation establishments registered 703 thousand guests and 1.8 million tourism nights, respectively. 69% of the latter were spent at hotels, where the number of international tourism nights was 7.9% higher than a year earlier. The number of international tourism nights spent at private or other accommodation establishments grew by 9.6% compared to July 2023. The number of international tourism nights increased most in Debrecen and surroundings (by 11%), while the Greater Budapest tourism area saw the largest decrease (by 15%) compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of international tourism nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments increased by 8.6% in Budapest and by 6.3% at Lake Balaton.
A total of 36,685 tourist accommodation establishments, within which 2,997 commercial and 33,688 private or other accommodation establishments welcomed guests.
Of commercial accommodation establishments, 1,011 hotels and 1,178 boarding houses were open for part or all of July.
The total gross sales revenues of tourist accommodation establishments amounted to HUF 134 billion, which was 12% higher at current prices than a year earlier.
Széchenyi Recreation Card was used by cardholders to spend HUF 7.5 billion, 3.0% more at current prices, at tourist accommodation establishments compared to the same month of the previous year.

Tourist accommodation establishments registered a total of 24.5 million tourism nights, up 6.0%.
Domestic guests and international guests spent 1.9% and 11% more tourism nights respectively (12.4 million and 12.1 million) in tourist accommodation establishments.
