In June, 6,040 children are born and 8,863 people lose their lives

According to preliminary data, 6,040 children were born and 8,863 people died in June 2024. The number of births lessened by 17%, that of deaths by 5.9% and that of marriages by 14% compared to June 2023.

In June 2024:

A total of 6,040 children were born, 17% or 1,217 fewer than in June 2023.

8,863 people lost their lives, 5.9% or 560 fewer than a year earlier.

The natural decrease was 2,823, as opposed to 2,166 in June 2023.

4,946 couples got married, which was 14% or 789 less than in June 2023.

In January–June 2024:

37,898 children were born, 4,059 or 9.7% less than in January–June 2023. Within this, the number of live births was 9.1% lower in January–March, 3.3% lower in April and 13% lower in May–June than in the same months of 2023.

The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.36 per female, which was 1.49 a year earlier.

There were 62,190 deaths, 4.2% less or 2,724 fewer than one year earlier. Compared to the same periods of the previous year, 1.8% more people died in January and 0.2% more in February, while 7.0% less people deceased in March–June.

Due to the balance of births and deaths, the natural decrease was 24,292 people, which was 5.8% more than the value of 22,957 for January–June 2023.

21,210 couples got married, 1.5% or 310 more than a year earlier. 27% more marriages were registered in January–February, 3.2% more in April–May, but 1.9% less in March and 14% less in June than in the corresponding months of 2023.

There were 8.0 live births and 13.1 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was 0.9 per mille points and that of deaths 0.6 per mille points lower than in January–June 2023, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease increased by 0.3 mille points to 5.1 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 4.0 per thousand live births, which was 1.1 per mille points more compared to the same period of the previous year. The marriage rate was 4.5 per mille, 0.1 per mille points higher than a year earlier.

The number of births declined in all regions compared to the same period of the previous year. The largest decreases, above the national average, occurred in Budapest, Western Transdanubia and Pest Region.

The number of deaths rose slightly in the Northern Great Plain, while it fell in all other regions compared to the same period of the previous year. The highest moderation, above the national average, occurred in Pest Region, Central Transdanubia, the capital and the Southern Great Plain.

The rate of natural decrease lessened in Central Transdanubia, Pest Region and Northern Hungary, while it increased in all other regions. The largest increase, above the national average, was in Western Transdanubia, Budapest and the Northern Great Plain.

The number of marriages increased in all regions except the capital. The rate of growth was below the national average in Pest Region and Western Transdanubia, while it exceeded it in the other regions.
