According to preliminary data, 6,284 children were born and 9,501 people died in May 2024. The number of births lessened by 11%, that of deaths by 6.2%, while marriages increased by 1.2% compared to May 2023.
In May 2024:
A total of 6,284 children were born, 11% or 760 fewer than in May 2023.
9,501 people lost their lives, 6.2% or 628 fewer than a year earlier.
The natural decrease was 3,217, as opposed to 3,085 in May 2023.
5,510 couples got married, which was 1.2% or 66 more than in May 2023.
In January–May 2024:
31,788 children were born, 2,912 or 8.4% less than in January–May 2023. Within this, the number of live births was 9.1% less in January–March, 3.4% less in April and 11% less in May than in the same months of 2023.
The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.36 per female, which was 1.48 a year earlier.
There were 52,983 deaths, 4.5% less or 2,508 fewer than one year earlier. Compared to the same periods of the previous year, 1.8% more people died in January and 0.2% more in February, while 8.4% less people deceased in March–May.
Due to the balance of births and deaths, the natural decrease was 21,195 people, which was 1.9% more than the value of 20,791 for January–May 2023.
16,266 couples got married, 7.3% or 1,101 more than a year earlier. 27% more marriages were registered in January–February, 3.2% more in April–May, but 1.9% less in March than in the corresponding months of 2023.
There were 8.0 live births and 13.3 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was 0.8 per mille points and that of deaths 0.7 per mille points lower than in January–May 2023, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease was almost identical to that of the previous period, 5.3 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 4.0 per thousand live births, which was 1.1 per mille points more compared to the same period of the previous year. The marriage rate was 4.1 per mille, 0.3 per mille points higher than a year earlier.
