The number of tourist arrivals increased by 4.3%, while that of tourism nights diminished by 1.0% compared to July 2022
In July 2023, 2.2 million guests spent 6.4 million tourism nights at tourist accommodation establishments1 (commercial, private and other accommodation establishments). The number of guests was 4.3% higher and that of tourism nights 1.0% lower than a year earlier. The number of nights spent by domestic guests decreased by 8.4%, while that of international tourism nights rose by 13%. In January–July 2023, domestic guests spent 8.1% less and foreign ones 13% more tourism nights at tourist accommodation establishments than in the same period of the previous year.

The number of tourist arrivals was up by 4.3%, while that of tourism nights diminished by 1.0% in total at tourist accommodation establishments. 62% of tourism nights were at commercial accommodation establishments, where the number of nights fell by 2.3%. Private and other accommodation establishments registered 1.2% more tourism nights than a year earlier.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals decreased by 3.6% and that of domestic tourism nights by 8.4% compared to the same month of the previous year. Tourist arrivals numbered 1.3 million and the tourism nights spent 3.9 million at tourist accommodation establishments, within which commercial accommodation establishments registered 837 thousand tourist arrivals and 2.3 million tourism nights. 57% of the latter were spent at hotels, where the number of tourism nights was 9.4% lower than a year earlier. The number of domestic tourism nights spent at private or other accommodation establishments was down by 8.2% compared to July 2022. The two most popular tourism regions2, Lake Balaton and the Eger tourism region, registered 42% and 8.2%, respectively, of domestic tourism nights, while Budapest's share was 4.8%.
The number of international tourist arrivals rose by 19% and that of international tourism nights by 13% compared to the same month of the previous year. The 907 thousand guests having arrived at tourist accommodation establishments spent 2.6 million tourism nights there, of which commercial accommodation establishments registered 628 thousand guests and 1.6 million tourism nights, respectively. 65% of the latter were spent at hotels, where the number of tourism nights was 8.0% higher than a year earlier. The number of international tourism nights spent at private or other accommodation establishments grew by 22% compared to July 2022. Tourist accommodation establishments in Budapest accounted for 45% of foreign tourism nights, and the most popular tourism region was Lake Balaton with a 24% share.
A total of 33,803 tourist accommodation establishments, within which 3,034 commercial and 30,769 private or other accommodation establishments welcomed guests.
Of commercial accommodation establishments, 1,005 hotels and 1,203 boarding houses were open for part or all of July.
The total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation establishments amounted to HUF 75 billion, which was 15% higher at current prices than a year earlier.
Széchenyi Recreation Card was used by cardholders to spend HUF 5.6 billion, 8.9% less at current prices, at commercial accommodation establishments.

Tourist accommodation establishments registered 0.6% more, a total of 22.4 million tourism nights.
Domestic guests spent 8.1% less and foreign ones 13% more (respective 12.0 million and 10.4 million) tourism nights at tourist accommodation establishments.
