4 million 682 thousand people in employment, unemployment rate at 4.5%
In February 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 682 thousand, essentially the same as a year earlier. The number of unemployed persons was 220 thousand and the unemployment rate 4.5%.1
Employment, December 2024–February 2025
In the period December 2024–February 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 689 thousand. The number of employed persons was practically the same for both sexes as a year earlier, with 2 million 487 thousand males and 2 million 202 thousand females.
There were 4 million 526 thousand people working in the domestic primary labour market, while the number of public workers was 62 thousand and those working abroad totalled 101 thousand.
The employment rate for people aged 15-64 was 75.0%. While the employment rate for males remained essentially unchanged2 at 78.7%, for females it rose by 0.5 percentage points to 71.3%.
Unemployment, December 2024–February 2025
In the period December 2024–February 2025, the number of unemployed people aged 15–74 was 214 thousand, 16 thousand fewer than a year earlier, while the rate decreased slightly2 to 4.4%.
The number of unemployed was 116 thousand for males and 98 thousand for females, with an unemployment rate of 4.5% for the former and 4.2% for the latter. The rate was 0.3 percentage points lower for men and 0.4 percentage points lower for women than a year ago.
The average duration of job search was 12.6 months. 41.5% of all unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while 36.9% had not found a job for at least a year.
According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered job seekers at the end of February 2025 decreased by 1.3% to 232 thousand compared to a year earlier.
