4 million 684 thousand people in employment, unemployment rate at 4.4%

In January 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 increased by 32 thousand to 4 million 684 thousand compared to the same period of the previous year. In January 2025, the number of unemployed persons was 214 thousand and the unemployment rate 4.4%.1

Employment, November 2024–January 2025

In the period November 2024–January 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 697 thousand2. For males, the number of employed persons was practically the same as a year earlier, at 2 million 490 thousand, while for females it was slightly higher2 at 2 million 207 thousand.

The number of workers in the domestic primary labour market was 4 million 525 thousand. The number of public workers and the people working abroad practically remained unchanged2 compared to a year before, 66 thousand and 106 thousand, respectively.

The employment rate for people aged 15-64 was 75.1%. While the employment rate for males remained essentially unchanged2 at 78.7%, for females it rose by 0.6 percentage points to 71.4%.

Unemployment, November 2024–January 2025

In the period November 2024–January 2025, the number of unemployed persons aged 15-74 decreased by 11 thousand2 to 213 thousand, while the rate remained essentially unchanged2 at 4.3%.

The number of unemployed was 115 thousand for males and 98 thousand for females, with an unemployment rate of 4.4% for the former and 4.2% for the latter.

The average duration of job search was 12.1 months. 43.7% of all unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while those looking for work at least a year accounted for 36.1% of the unemployed.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered job seekers at the end of January 2025 decreased by 1.2% to 230 thousand compared to a year earlier.
