4 million 678 thousand people in employment, unemployment rate at 4.3%

In December 2024, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 decreased by 16 thousand to 4 million 678 thousand compared to the same period of the previous year. In December 2024, the number of unemployed persons was 210 thousand and the unemployment rate 4.3%.1

Employment, October–December 2024

In the period October–December 2024, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 decreased to 4 million 689 thousand.2 While the number of employed males was 2 million 481 thousand, 27 thousand lower than a year earlier, that of females was practically the same as in the same period of the previous year, at 2 million 208 thousand.

The number of workers in the domestic primary labour market decreased by 32 thousand to 4 million 515 thousand. The number of public workers and the people working abroad increased to a small extent,2 to 63 thousand and 111 thousand, respectively.

The employment rate for people aged 15-64 was 75.1%. The rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points for males (78.5%) and was the same2 for females (71.5%) compared to the same period of the previous year.

Unemployment, October–December 2024

In the period October–December 2024, the number and rate of unemployed persons aged 15-74 was the same as a year earlier; the former was 216 thousand and the latter was 4.4%.

The number of unemployed males was 114 thousand and that of females 102 thousand, while the unemployment rate was 4.4% for both sexes.

The average duration of job search was 11.9 months. 47.5% of all unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, up 3.9 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year, while those looking for work at least a year accounted for 34.3% of the unemployed.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered job seekers at the end of December 2024 decreased by 1.8% to 221 thousand compared to a year earlier.
