Consumer prices 5.5% higher on average than in same month of previous year

Consumer prices were 5.5% higher on average in January 2025 than a year earlier. Over one month, consumer prices rose by 1.5% on average, within which motor fuels became 2.7% more expensive.

In 12 months, compared to January 2024:

A price increase of 6.0% was recorded for food, within which 43.2% for flour, 25.0% for milk, 23.8% for eggs, 21.5% for edible oil, 16.0% for fruit and vegetable juices, 15.5% for butter, 12.9% for chocolate and cocoa, 9.1% for milk products and 8.1% for coffee. Within the product group, the price of pasta products lessened by 3.6%, that of margarine by 2.9% and other meat preparation prices by 2.1%. Services became 8.5%, within which postal services 16.8% and telephone and internet services 15.0% more expensive, rents were up by 11.8% and the repair and maintenance of vehicles became 10.3%, the repair and maintenance of dwellings 9.9%, other public entertainment tickets 9.0%, personal care services 8.6% and recreational services 7.2% more expensive. Alcoholic beverage and tobacco prices rose by 4.9%, within which the price of tobacco by 5.3%. 0.2% more was to be paid for electricity, gas and other fuels, within which 1.5% more for natural and manufactured gas and 0.7% more for electricity. Consumer durable prices were up by 0.8%, within which jewellery cost 17.4%, new passenger cars 6.6% and living and dining room furniture 2.6% more and second-hand passenger cars 5.5% less for consumers. Pharmaceutical products became 2.9% and motor fuels 11.8% more expensive.

In one month, compared to December 2024:

Consumer prices were up by 1.5% on average. Food became 1.9% more expensive on average, within which milk cost 5.8%, edible oil 5.1%, coffee 4.9%, chocolate and cocoa 4.7%, seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables and fresh domestic and tropical fruits in total) 4.4%, flour 3.8%, pasta products 3.0%, milk products 2.9% and margarine 2.8% more for consumers. Service prices increased by 2.2% on average, within which telephone and internet services cost 9.9%, postal services 6.0% and the repair and maintenance of dwellings 2.7% and motorway use, renting a car and parking 2.3% more and recreational services in the country 0.4% less for consumers. An average 1.7% more was to be paid for electricity, gas and other fuels, within which 3.7% more for natural and manufactured gas and 1.7% more for butane and propane gas (Press release). Alcoholic beverage and tobacco prices rose by 1.5%, within which the price of alcoholic beverages by 1.8% and that of tobacco by 1.3%. Motor fuel prices increased by 2.7%. Clothing and footwear cost 2.9% less for consumers due to the end-of-season sale.
