7,673 children born and 10,016 people lose their lives in September
In September 2022, 7,673 children were born and 10,016 people died according to preliminary data. In the last twelve months, i.e. between October 2021 and September 2022, the number of births diminished by 2.6%, that of deaths by 8.1% and the number of marriages by 7.2% compared to the period one year earlier.
In September 2022:
A total of 7,673 children were born, 11% less or 962 fewer than a year earlier.
10,016 people lost their lives, 3.0% less or 305 fewer than in September 2021.
The natural decrease was 2,343, as opposed to 1,686 in September 2021.
7,701 couples got married, which was 2.6% less or 207 fewer than in September 2021.
Between October 2021 and September 2022:
89,724 children were born, 2.6% less or 2,397 fewer than in the previous twelve months. 4.8% less children were born in January–September this year, within which the number of births went down by 11% in January–April and by 6.9% in August–September and increased by 4.1% in May–July compared to the same period of 2021.
The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.54 per female, compared to 1.57 calculated for the previous twelve months.
There were 144,998 deaths, 8.1% less or 12,805 fewer than in the previous twelve months. The number of deaths fell by 9.5% in January–September this year, within which going down by 4.4% in January, by 21% in March–June and by 3.0% in September and increasing by 4.9% in February and by 5.6% in July–August compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The number of births diminished to a lower extent than that of deaths, as a result of which the natural decrease was 55,274, which was 16% lower than the value of 65,682 for the previous twelve months.
66,840 couples got married, 7.2% less or 5,159 fewer than in the previous twelve months. The number of marriages decreased by 8.9% in January–September this year, within which 10% less marriages were registered in January–April, 11% less in June–September and 3.6% more in May than in the same months of 2021.
There were 9.3 live births and 15.0 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was 0.2 per mille point and that of deaths 1.3 per mille points lower than in October 2020–September 2021, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease was down by 1.0 per mille point to 5.7 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.4 per thousand live births, which was approximately the same as the value for the previous twelve months. The marriage rate was 6.9 per mille, 0.5 per mille point lower than in the period a year earlier.

The number of births slightly rose in Northern Great Plain and in Northern Hungary and diminished in the rest of the regions in the past twelve months. The largest decrease was in Budapest and the smallest one in Southern Transdanubia.
The number of deaths went down in all the regions compared to the previous twelve months. The highest falls occurred in Pest Region and in Northern Hungary and the lowest one in Southern Great Plain.
The natural decrease lessened in all the regions, the most in Pest Region and the least in the capital.
The number of marriages fell short in all the regions of the value for the previous twelve months. The highest falls were in Central Transdanubia and in Budapest and the lowest one in Northern Hungary.
