The number of tourism nights grew nearly seven-fold compared to April 2021 and decreased by 28% compared to the same month of 2019
The number of nights spent by domestic guests at commercial accommodation establishments1 (hotels, boarding houses, camping sites, bungalow complexes and community hostels) increased – mainly due to the low base caused by the pandemic restrictions – almost five-and-a-half-fold in April 2022 compared to the same month of 2021, however, it was 20% below the April 2019 figure, preceding the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the number of nights spent by foreign guests rose nearly nine-and-a-half-fold, it was even so 35% less than in the same period of 2019.

The number of domestic tourist arrivals grew more than seven-and-a-half-fold and that of tourism nights nearly five-and-a-half-fold. The former was 384 thousand and the latter 844 thousand. 76% of the nights were spent at hotels, their number rising seven-fold compared to a year earlier. Turnover in boarding houses and community hostels grew 2.4-fold and 2.9-fold respectively compared to April last year. The most popular tourist regions were Lake Balaton and the Budapest-Central Danube Region, which accounted for 22% and 17% respectively of domestic tourism nights.
The number of international tourist arrivals at accommodation establishments rose more than twelve-fold, to 313 thousand, and that of international tourism nights nearly nine-and-a-half-fold, to a total 822 thousand. 84% of tourism nights were spent at hotels, which was a more than eleven-fold growth compared to April 2021. The most popular tourism region was the Budapest–Central Danube Region, where 64% of international tourism nights were registered.
Total gross sales revenues grew nearly eight-fold, to HUF 38 billion at current prices.
Cardholders paid more than 12.5 times more with their Széchenyi Recreation Cards at commercial accommodation establishments, a total of HUF 2.2 billion.

The number of tourism nights registered in commercial accommodation establishments increased four-and-a-half-fold to 5.1 million. Domestic guests spent three and a half times as many nights in commercial accommodation establishments and international guests nearly six and a half times as many (2.7 million and 2.4 million respectively).
The total gross revenue of commercial accommodation establishments at current prices increased more than five-and-a-half-fold to HUF 116 billion.
