Average gross earnings amounted to HUF 482,400
In November 2021, full-time employees’ average gross earnings were HUF 482,400, average net earnings without tax benefits reached HUF 320,800; both being 10,1% higher than a year earlier. Gross earnings grew by 8.8% in the business sector, in the budgetary sector the increase was higher, 11.1%, due to planned wage raises in certain government branches. In January–November 2021, average gross earnings reached HUF 433,800, average net earnings amounted to HUF 288,500, both rising by 8.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.
November 2021:
Full-time employees’ average gross earnings (as defined by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office) – at enterprises employing at least 5 persons, at budgetary institutions and at non-profit organisations that are significant in terms of employment – were HUF 482,400; excluding fostered workers HUF 494,100.
Average net earnings excluding tax benefits reached HUF 320,800 and HUF 329,700 including them.
Both average gross earnings and average net earnings excluding tax benefits increased by 10.1%. Average net earnings including tax benefits grew by 9.8% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Regular average gross earnings (without premiums and one-month bonuses) are estimated at HUF 409,600, 8.7% higher than a year before.
Gross median earnings reached HUF 375,600, surpassing by 8.9% the previous year’s value.
January–November 2021:
Full-time employees’ average gross earnings (as defined by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office) – at enterprises employing at least 5 persons, at budgetary institutions and at non-profit organisations that are significant in terms of employment – amounted to HUF 433,800 and excluding fostered workers to HUF 444,600.
Average net earnings reached HUF 288,500 excluding tax benefits and HUF 297,100 including them.
Both average gross earnings and average net earnings without tax benefits went up by 8.6%, average net earnings including tax benefits grew by 8.3% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Average gross earnings reached HUF 445,200 in the business sector, HUF 408,900 in the budgetary sector, HUF 405,100 in the non-profit sector, representing growths of 7.8%, 9.6% and 14.4%, compared to the same period of the previous year. Due to planned wage raises in certain government branches – including the pay raise of doctors, judges and prosecutors, and employees of nurseries – the growth of average wages in the budgetary sector exceeded that of the national economy. Several educational institutions have been reclassified from the budgetary into the non-profit sector, following a change in their controlling authority, leading to a significant increase in average earnings in the non-profit sector.
The highest average gross earnings were recorded in the financial and insurance activities section (HUF 745,300) and the lowest ones for accommodation and food service activities (HUF 264,800).
Average gross earnings amounted to HUF 473,100 for full-time male employees and to HUF 397,100 for full-time female employees, representing increases of 8.8% for males and 8.3% for females over a year.

Real earnings rose by 3.5%, along with a 4.9% year-on-year increase in consumer prices.
Gross median earnings were HUF 347,700, surpassing by 9.1% the previous year’s value.
