The content of certain first releases published under the theme of agriculture (livestock, ear cereals, agricultural producer prices) will be issued – considering that they contain no leading indicators – in another data disclosure format in the future, among ready-made tables (STADAT) and in the dissemination database, ensuring this way the availability of detailed information for users. Production of ear cereals decreases except for wheat
6.9 million tonnes of ear cereals, 5.0% less than in the previous year, were produced in 2018 on a 1.3% larger area. Changeable weather had an unfavourable effect on average yields this year. All ear cereals apart from oats had lower yields than the values for 2017.
The most substantial type of ear cereals in Hungary is wheat, which accounted for 76% of total ear cereals production in 2018 – compared with 73% in 2017. This year the same volume of production (5,246 thousand tonnes) was harvested as last year from a 6.5% larger area. The average yield (5,100 kg/ha) was 6.1% lower, but it was slightly higher than the average of the previous five years (2013–2017).
The harvested area of barley was 8.8% and its production 19% lower than in 2017, which resulted in a 12% lower average yield per hectare (4,670 kg/ha). It was 1.4% lower than the average of the previous five years.
The harvested area of triticale has been reduced since 2016. 12% less crops were reaped from a 6.8% smaller area in 2018 than in the previous year, the average yield per hectare decreased by 5.2%.
Rye was harvested from nearly 26 thousand hectares, which was somewhat lower than last year. The production lessened by 3.4% compared to 2017, the average yield was practically the same.
A nearly 38% lower production of oats was harvested from a 39% smaller area in 2018 than a year earlier, the average yield per hectare became 2.6% higher.
