Construction output volume decreased by 3.9% year-on-year and by 3.7% compared to November

According to raw data the volume of construction output in December 2022 lagged behind the previous year’s level by 3.9%. Out of the main groups of construction the construction of buildings increased by 1.1%, that of civil engineering decreased by 12.7%. Based on seasonally and working day adjusted indices construction output was below the November level by 3.7%. In 2022 construction output surpassed that of 2021 by 3.0%. In the year as a whole, construction producer prices – due to significant price hikes of certain construction materials - were 24.5% higher on average than in the previous year.

In December 2022 compared to the same month of the previous year:

Out of the main groups of construction the output at construction of buildings was 1.1% higher, that of civil engineering was 12.7% lower.

Among the divisions of construction, production lessened by 2.2% in the construction of buildings, and by 16.3% in civil engineering. Specialised constructions production grew by 0.7%.

The volume of new contracts concluded was below the December 2021 high base by 35.9%, within it the volume of contracts for the construction of buildings was 4.5% lower, the volume regarding civil engineering declined by 59.3% year-on-year.

The volume of the end-of-December stock of contracts at construction enterprises lessened by 1.2%, within it the volume of contracts was up by 13.9% for the construction of buildings and down by 10.6% for civil engineering works compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the entire year of 2022 compared to the previous year:

Construction output rose overall by 3.0%, within it the volume of construction of buildings was 6.3% higher, that of civil engineering was 1.4% lower. In 2022 there were 3.1% less contracts concluded, within it the volume of contracts for the construction of buildings was 10.3% higher, the volume regarding civil engineering works declined by 17.3%.

Construction Producer Prices:

In the 4th quarter of 2022, construction producer prices rose by 26.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. Within the divisions of construction, prices increased by a similar rate (by 27.6% and 27.5%) in the construction of buildings and in the greatest weight carrying specialized construction activities, and they grew by 22.6% in civil engineering compared to the 4th quarter of 2021. The price increase was caused principally by the rising costs, especially the significant price hike of several building materials.
