Construction output volume rose by 2.7% in December
The volume of construction output, based on raw data, was 2.7% higher in December 2019 than a year earlier. The output of the two main groups of construction developed inversely: the construction of buildings decreased by 11.3% and civil engineering rose by 22.2%. Based on seasonally and working-day-adjusted indices construction output lessened by 3.0% compared to the November data. In 2019 construction output grew by 21.7% compared to 2018. In the year as a whole, construction output prices were 9.7% higher on average than in the previous year.
In December 2019, compared to the same month of the previous year:
The output of the two main groups of construction developed inversely: the construction of buildings decreased by 11.3% and civil engineering rose by 22.2%. In civil engineering projects, road and railway constructions were significant.
Out of the divisions of construction, output volume went down by 10.6% in the construction of buildings and increased by 29.3% in civil engineering. Specialised construction activities lessened by 3.4%.
The volume of new contracts rose by 10.0%, within which the volume of new contracts concluded for the construction of buildings was 1.4% and the volume for civil engineering 21.0% higher than one year earlier. High-value contracts regarding industrial buildings, road constructions and railway renovation were concluded in December.
The volume of the December-end stock of contracts of construction enterprises was 10.5% lower than at the end of December 2018. The volume of contracts increased by 38.9% for the construction of buildings and was cut by 20.7% for civil engineering works.
During the entire year, compared to the previous year:
Construction output was up by 21.7%. The construction of buildings grew by 20.2% and civil engineering by 23.9%.
Construction output prices:
In the 4th quarter, construction output prices rose by 8.8% compared to the same period of the previous year. Out of the divisions of construction, prices increased by 9.4% in the construction of buildings, by 8.5% in civil engineering and by 8.6% in specialised construction activities, carrying the greatest weight, compared to the 4th quarter of 2018.
Construction prices in the 4th quarter were 1.7% higher than in the previous quarter.
